Now just for a bit of fun, because we love to play around with our nail varnishes here, I painted my nails in black with hologram hexograms overt the top. The picture is a bit flat but they look so sparkly and reflective in reality, we love this look:

Steal Katie Waissel’s X Factor style

Love her or hate her, 24-year-old hair salon receptionist Katie Waissel has already made a big impression on the X Factor judges. And despite fluffing her lines not once, but twice, the Madonna-inspired singer made it into the final 12. But while Katie’s quirky retro style might not be for everyone, here's how to create a much more toned down, wearable version of her make-up.

For a start, ditch the humongous circus-like false lashes - who knows how Katie got through the day at the judges’ houses with those unsightly things weighing her down. Instead, opt for a thickening mascara like our 3 in 1 to lengthen, add volume and separate the lashes. Elsewhere, Katie keeps her eye make-up pretty simple, with neutral eye shadows and well groomed eyebrows.

Katie opts for a matte foundation finish with a subtle rosy blush. Try a light to medium coverage foundation or a tinted moisturiser and sweep a smidgen of our Pink Orchard onto the apples of your cheeks.

The lips tend to be the focal point of Katie’s look (apart from the aforementioned lashes, of course) and at the judges' houses, she went for a girly baby pink shade. A far cry from the bright orange/red she went for on her first audition, the pale pink complemented Katie’s complexion and was well in line with the 60s little white dress look she sported. Achieve a similar look with our lip paint in Sheer Pink.

Finally, add a dramatic bow or hair piece to a quiffed barnet, and a coat or two of black nail polish and you’re ready to go!

Get the X Factor with Cher Lloyd's look

The X Factor finalists have only recently been selected, but there are already countless articles and YouTube videos on how to recreate the girls’ make-up looks. First up, hip hop princess, Cher Lloyd - there’s no mistaking the 16-year-old singer’s distinctive look. And while we may not all want to rush out and purchase a pair of baggy ghetto pants or sky-high boots, there are tons of make up junkies who’d happily sport Cher’s heavy smokey eyes and dramatic black brows.

Here’s how to do it: get hold of a black or dark brown kohl eyeliner and fill in the brows, accentuating the arches by building up colour gradually. Or soft kohl pencil in black is a mere snip at just £2.95. If you’re blessed with thicker, more defined brows, use a thin shadow brush and a dark eyeshadow shade to gently fill them in.

Create Cher’s stunning smokey eyes by blending a dark eyeliner under the waterline and in the inner corners of the eyes our Super Soft Eyes Crayons are great for creating a smudgy, smoky effect. If you prefer to use a liquid eyeliner, our black will do the trick.

For the eyeshadow, blend a dark shade like Dazzle Dust in Petrol Black on the lid. For a much more wearable daytime look, you can tone it down with Charcoal or even a navy blue shade.

On the cheeks, Cher’s rosy glow is down to a well chosen blush like our Pink Orchid, at £4.50. Finally - the lips! Never mind those who say dramatic eyes should be worn with neutral lips - and vice versa. Yep Barry M are doing pressed eyeshadows!

Finally, I hear you all cry! Barry M are now doing pressed eye shadows - so you can get all the amazing sparkle and shimmer you have come to expect from Dazzle Dusts - but in solid form!

And they come in these lovely trio pallets:

You will start to see these in Superdrug now but if you can't get hold of them then they are always available on our website.

Personally I am loving Golden Goddess which is the first one, it makes creating a bronzed smokey look for summer so easy. And the pink and brown one, called Delicious Diva, gives a similar look but puts a pink twist on it for that extra girliness - how can you go wrong!

You get an applicator in the pallet, with a brush and a sponge end. Personally I always prefer to use my own brushes but they are great to use for touching up when I am out.

Sorry we haven't posted in a while, we have been crazy busy filming our new TV ad. It looks great, we are so proud! It's great to get so involved and see something through from concept to completion. So make sure you are watching Hollyoaks on Channel 4 on 4th May to see it first! It will also be on our website from 4th May so make sure you check it out.

So, here is the first new product of the year and I can't get across how excited I am to tell you about these!

These are our new Lip Lacquer Crayons. Literally a jumbo sized crayon to apply directly to your lips. They are so fun and glide on so smoothly. The colour is so intense and glossy - hence the name lacquer.

I have done a swatch on my arm so you can see what the colours are like. Honestly amazing for nights out, esp because they are so easy to reapply. Although I wear Ballet Pink in the day - the advantages of my job is I have been testing them and finding my favourite shades for a while now!

For those with iPhones...

I don't think we have mentioned this before but we are starting to get some press around our iPhone App and I didnt want you all to feel left out!

I do have an iPhone, and as you all know, I'm not that experienced at applying make-up but want to learn to be better so I use this App all the time. It has loads of 60 second video tutorials on how to create a certain look on your eyes. There are loads of styles on there, all categorised by the type of look, eg celebrity, clubbing, bollywood etc.

Some of the looks are crazy and fun to play around with but I like some of the more day-to-day looks. Some of them are even filmed being done on my eye which is weird when I watch the make-up being put on my own eye in the video and there I am trying to recreate it!!

We have also just added nail art lookz, which give you ideas for some fun designs that are easy to recreate on your nails. There are some fab festive ones worth checking out!

Well, brace yourselves for this one....We all know that bold lips have been a key trend this year but now blue and green are set to be the latest colours to adorn your lips, so when Barry M say we are the most colourful name in cosmetics, we mean it! How could we refuse to bow to fashion and make up these two little beauties? We couldn't so, Lip Paint 148 (Blue) and Lip Paint 149 (green) were born!

Christmas is coming

Can you believe Christmas is only 6 and a half weeks away!!! My sister moved to Canada this year so I need to be really organised and have her pressies posted in about a week to make sure they get there on time! Got to admit I do like Christmas shopping (who doesn't love shopping??) so I don't mind having a legitimate excuse to start early, I just need to focus on buying stuff for other people and not myself!

My lovely friends have already started dropping hints about wanting Barry M make-up as their presents which is great because I love going down to the warehouse, with it's rows and rows of colourful, glittery products, it is like being in the best, girliest sweet shop ever! The guys who work down there do not appreciate how lucky they are!!

So what will I get them?? Well some of them read this blog so I can't give too much away, but, hypothetically speaking, if I was a great friend I would get them our Get the Look gift sets. Firstly because it is such a good deal to get 3 products for £9.95, secondly because it looks fab in a great gift box and thirdly because it comes with instructions on how to apply the make-up which might stop them asking me for a while!

Dazzle Dust Swatch

As we all know, it can be a bit tricky to tell what exact result you will get from our dazzle dusts without actually seeing them on. So the girls at HQ thought we would do a regular feature where we swatch requested shades. This week on Facebook and Twitter these were the ones you wanted to see, so...

Mushroom is a lovely shimmery colour that could be suitable day or night - I have still got it on now and will be wearing it on my date tonight - woohoo!

Block Blue is very matt but such a vibrant colour, it really stands out but doesn't look tacky! I would probably only wear it on a night out or to a party though.

Petrol Black - the picture speaks for itself! So good we had to show it on Emily's eye open and closed. It is a sort of black colour with glittery bits of turquoise, it is everyone here's favourite!

Neon Pink was tried on by Marlene, again it is quite matt but not completely and VERY vibrant - the pic doesn't do it justice. This looks great on darker skin tones but how can you go wrong with pink?!

Silvery Black is great for a smoky eye look and worn all over like Emily has, it has got a great shimmer but not too much. And looks great on just about every skin tone, what more could you want?!

We worked all weekend...

Apologies for such a gap between blog posts but we have been a bit dazed and exhausted in the office due to working all weekend! Me, Emily and Joanna worked at Salon International at the Excel, here is a pic of us setting up our stand - it looked great! Sorry the pic is a bit blurry - it was ridiculously early on a Saturday morning!!

The stand was packed, we literally didnt have time to have a break! But it was great to meet lots of customers and see what they were buying and hear really great comments about how much they love Barry M. And Barry himself was there but I;m not sure if people realised it was him!

Have you been sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for these?? Probably not but I have done them anyway!

These are absolutely amazing, and perfectly timed for the party season! They are really easy to apply thick or thin and look good on their own or over an eye shadow.

I am wearing the pink on its own in the picture but the other night I did a smokey eye with the metallic black eyeliner which just gave it a bit of a brighter, dressier look. My friend wore the blue over Dazzle Dust 92 which is Aqua Gold, a look which came from our TV ad. It looked really unusual and she got loads of nice comments!

Personally my fave is silver, just because I have a fringe, so it really stands out against my dark hair. What are your first impressions?!

I'm Marlene, I've been working for Barry M for 5 fabulous years.

I've worked within the beauty industry for most of my working life. Since joining the company the brand has grown and gone from strength to strength and I have the privilege of working with a great team!

Intro to Barry's daughter...

Hi guys, my name is Joanna and I am the daughter of Barry M!

I have been surrounded by make-up since I was 8 when my dad started the company, so you probably think WOW I must have so much make-up but honestly I don't. I must admit though, I can't leave my home without my Natural Dazzle Bronzer and our Lip Liner 6 which I absolutely love.

I remember when I was much younger working in the warehouse filling all the Dazzle Dusts by hand and playing with all the different Nail Paints. I used to have so much fun and all my friends were so jealous because they all loved Barry M make-up - and still do!

Every day working at Barry M is crazy but fun. I love reading all of the comments in the feedback box on our website, I love knowing our fans are as passionate as I am about Barry M make-up! Would love to hear any feedback you have got and what your favourite products are?!

Barry M goes to London Fashion Week!

Hope you all had a nice weekend?
Well, I had a little adventure to London Fashion Weekend to check out the Spring/Summer 10 trends and to see what colours would be big for next year to see what is a must have shade for our range. Did anyone else go along?

I got a little distracted from my task by the most beautiful pair of Emma Cook shoes which I have to share with you all. I've never been a big believer of love at first sight, but if such a thing exists then this was most definately it! I can't wait to wear them at the weekend for my night out with the girls with my favourite Barry M Nail paint at the mo - Pink Flamingo.

Swatch time...

This is a swatch of the new matt crayons, they are much more vibrant in real life than in this picture. Sorry about our camera skills - it is a Friday after all! Woohoo its Friday!!

Any way, back to the crayons, they are so soft and silky on your skin, not like those scratchy pencils you can get that almost rip your eyelids off! And they are such strong colours so don't need to be layered on and on. I have done them quite thick but they can be used as a thin liner or can be put on thicker and smudged for a smokey look. Fab, fab, FAB!!!

At £3.95 I'll have blue, purple and pink please! Hope you like....?

My friends and I are going to be trying out the metallic eyeliners over the weekend so Ill have pics on Monday for those!

New Product Alert - Matt and Metallic shades!

Hey everyone!

Hope your all good and looking forward to the weekend? I know I am because.....we have just had some new products in and I can't wait to try them out on my Friday night out with the Barry M girls!

Ok, first we have Supersoft Eye Crayons in new matt shades. Solid 'block' eye colour in bright and bold tones have been really popular this Autumn and i've heard they are around to stay this Winter. If your feeling daring try using these all over the eyelid or simply use to line the eyes for a subtle pop of colour! They come in blue, turquoise, purple, pink and green and for £3.95 they are a bargain for updating your winter wardrobe!

Next are our Metallic Liquid Eyeliners. One word. Wow! They are seriously sleek and sexy. Use these for a gorgeous, smoldering eye with a slick of molten colour. With all the cute sequin dresses out at the moment, these are the ESSENTIAL accessory at only £4.50. I have my eye on the black for that vampy gothic look, and I have already pinched the pink which gives a really delicate and pretty finish - think tinkerbell if she was going on a hot date! We have 6 colours including gold, silver, black, green, pink and blue. Which one do you like the look of? Loving or hating the chrome trend?

Hey everyone, Emily here!

I look after Brand Development here at Barry M which basically means creating new products and keeping an eye on the latest trends to ensure that only the best products make it into our range. I started here 3 years ago working in the marketing but gradually started getting more and more involved with the actual products. Playing with make up and celeb watching for the latest trend all day is a girly's girls dream but let me tell you as fun as my job is, there are a few hazzards that I incur. Obviously all products that make it on to our shelves in store have been thouroughly tested but what about all the products that don't make the cut? Yes, you guessed - I try these too. Whether it be a lipstick that stains your lips blue (so strangers ask if you feel ok and not about to keel over with a heartattack) or an eyeshadow that gives you the height of conjunctivitus chic, i've tried it all. And don't get me started on glitter - it gets everywhere!I think I have consumed about 5kg of the stuff in the quest to create new lipglosses. My insides probably resemble a disco ball.

So, watch this space for my new product updates whether it be testing our latest lash loving item on a night out on the town or nailing the latest polish in the office you will see it here first.

So I am Lauren, I work in marketing at Barry M. This is a bit of an intro to me...

I love colour, especially in clothes – I try not to wear a lot of black! Oh no, I sound like Ugly Betty but I’m not that bad honest, the colours do go with each other! I think :-)

But when it comes to make-up I am just not very confident (or good) at wearing colours. Until I worked here I had one faithful silver eye shadow that I wore every week and now my make-up bag is bursting at the seams!

So now I am addicted to trying new products, and don’t I have the perfect job to do that?! So for all of you that are new to make-up or experimenting with it – look out for my blog. We can learn together!

Got lots of new products coming out in a few days! Literally cannot wait to talk about them!

Going out partying with some friends tonight, soo excited as I haven't seen these girls in ages! I bought one of those body con dresses last weekend and really want to wear it – just wish I hadn’t eaten so much pizza at lunch!!

So here at Barry M HQ in North London we have been talking about doing a staff blog for a while now - and finally here it is!!

There are quite a few of us who want to post blogs, we all have different styles and passions and all want to fill you in on what we get up to and are interested in - we hope you want to hear about it! And obviously we want to tell you all abut the important things happening at Barry M!! ;-) You never know - we might even get Barry himself on here!
